Wapping M9 v Chelmsford M4 (h)

"Somewhere in Eastern Europe"

Wapping M9 welcomed Chelmsford M4 to John Orwell, knowing that a win would put a 10-point gap between the sides and near them towards confirmed safety, which was always the target for the season following promotion into the division last year.

Following last weeks shortage on numbers due to the ski season, the M9 were once again hit by a mass exodus of players. This week it was due to the decision of centre back Nathan Ellisdon to propose to one of Wapping's L5s, who incredibly, despite being far too good for him, said yes. This of course meant a stag was required, and half the squad trekked out to somewhere in Eastern Europe. All regular match report writers were on said trip, but none are willing to put anything in writing with regards to weekend events, presumably because no one remembers...

Back to the hockey, and there was a welcome return in goal to Stuart Burnside, who was delighted to report after the game that he only conceded two goals, both of which were flicked into the air so he considered them unstoppable. Playing his first game this season due to injury, he appeared to forget how best to use his equipment as he took to using his crotch to stop the ball... it all counts!

At the other end of the pitch, Ollie Kean used the absence of Alex Newman in order play catch up in the team goal-scoring charts. An energetic performance earn't him two goals to leave him on seven for the season, one behind Alex. Later reports suggest he should have claimed a hat-trick though.

Goals also to Tim Alexander, Liam Flynn and a 'worldie' from Craig Alder earn't Wapping a 5-2 win. MOM went to Ollie Kean for his well taken goals, and DOD to Craig for rolling around on the floor after being tackled.

Video evidence from the post-match pint-off suggests that in a rare lapse of concentration, Keano was edged into second place. Perhaps he shouldn't have offered Craig a head start?
