Wapping1s lose out to Ipswich

Travelling to Ipswich playing on their wonky lined sandy pitch. Team full of hope following training and our team talk on our tactics for the match. Good transferring around the back out letting to draw Ipswich players out of position to enable a quick ball to the inside forwards or inners. Ipswich were played high pressure but good organisation in the 23 by Wapping defence meant ipswich weren’t able to pick up any points.
Wapping found their attacking flow albeit a little bit too much down the left. First goal came from Emma Evans winning the ball and quickly moving the ball onto Lotta in the D, Lotta Paulus just missing a reverse goal wide and toddy quick to react on the post got a deflection and the first goal of the match. However if we were playing by training rules it would have been five points for a deflection! We continued to pressure in the first half, we were constantly in their 25. Unfortunately we lacked possession, composure and weren’t able to get that second goal.

Wapping ladies won four short corners but failed to convert in the first half. Second half, they came back very aggressively Wapping continued to keep to our game plan and did win several more short corners but still unfortunately unable to convert. Ipswich counterattack creating an overload which the defence were unable to cover all players. Ipswich made some good possessional passes and managed to equalise with the player that had come into the d unmarked.

Back and forth up the pitch battling one on ones, a little bit too much holding onto the hall and not playing our simple passing game. Unfortunately this led to counterattack’s in the last few minutes creating an overload in Wapping’s 25.

Wapping kept battling until the whistle blew with some innovative play, especially from Bee Armstrong who made a wonderful aerial down the line into the attaching 25 ready for a forward to pick onto.
