Wapping Ladies 1s continue their winning ways
Wapping Ladies started with great confidence into the game against Norwich following on from an intense & positive training session.
As always, within the first ten minutes the team showed determination and a clear winning attitude right from the whistle.
Norwich had two strong midfield players in the middle, however Wapping's attack were quick to get around their defence with amazing skill from the forward line: Kate O'Sullivan, Jordan Mulvaney, Ness Sharman, Jenni Allen, Lottie Colquhoun following some smart patterns of play around the back and through the midfield.
Wapping's eagerness to score quickly paid off with their 1st goal! A quick transfer across the defence: Bee Armstrong, Becky Hart, Hannah Gage and to Dannie Jones who was found in the attacking 25 who distributed a diagonal ball into the D, a few scrappy passes to knick a goal before Jenny Allen was quick to react and knock the ball past the goalies left foot!
Wapping welcome Ness Sharman to the team this week who played upfront, working hard in putting pressure on the defence in the press and driving the ball forwards. Welcome to Wapping Ness!
After focusing on counterattacking at training, Wapping were able to confidently penetrate and hassle within the D, it's a shame the team didn't score more goals as there were so many good opportunities!
As always, Ais McKeon held the middle of the midfield working closely next to the inners, Lotta Paulus, Emma Evans, Ciara Murphy to distributed short quick passes and pushing the opposition to play wide.
Into the second half, Wapping's 2nd goal happened from a quick free hit from the 5 metre line taken by Dannie Jones and caught by Kate O'Sullivan who distributed a slick ball into the attacking D, after a few quick passes within the D once again Wapping managed to run Norwich off their feet and Lucy Todd knocked in the second goal!
Just a quick mention to Jordan Mulvaney hockey magic after beating players with speed down the link, linking with an inner, to then receive the ball again and just miss a goal on the post!
Norwich attacked higher in the second half putting Wapping under pressure, a few counter attacks and close encounters to the D however this did not stop our defence from battling through, Becky Hart, Dannie Jones , Bee Armstrong , Hannah Gage. Norwich had a short corner in the last 3 minutes, however the Ladies goalie Meg Pugh saved the day!
Player of the match - Dannie Jones for amazing attacking play on the right and consistent fight in protecting the D!
DOD - Hannah Gage for keeping it super exciting and tense for us in the last 2 minutes!
