Wapping v Cambridge City

Wapping beaten by a well playing Cambridge team.

Starting with high hopes into the game Wapping wanted to take the momentum from last week into this week.
However, this was not to be the case.

A super slippery pitch which made fast turning nearly impossible (especially for the Canadian import) Cambridge found the better first 10 minutes and scored a short corner from a rebound.
Side note: Ciara, next time please do your magic and dissolve into air, immediately!

Wapping responded directly with a penalty corner. A promising looking routine from Aisling McKeon to Vanessa Sharman beat the keeper but fortune was not on our side and the ball rolled inches next to the far post off the pitch.

Cambridge played fast and turned over quickly. It seemed they outnumbered us several times. Shortly after another well drilled penalty corner they led 2:0 and suddenly a shocking 3:0. (Details are overrated)

Wapping still kept it positive and patient, knowing that they actually have it in their hands to turn it over. A few more short corners and D entries later Jennifer Allen finally showed off her forward skills as a left back and scored a spectacular shot in the net. *There might have been a little assist by Cambridge but it was a delight.

You might think that was our only highlight of the game but nope - we can also appreciate sterling performances of Becky Hart and Siobhan Stewart (pronounced “see your bum”). The latter in particular played yet another great game and stayed calm, collected and composed in the back which earned her MOM.

Despite hoping for the turning point at the half time Wapping was rather chasing and has definitely seen better days. Cambridge continued to play their game, and scored two more goals from counter attacks.
Already being in the bad books Ciara Murphy received a questionable green card.
Given that last season the Irish card account was far more flourishing it just needed a little reminder of it’s existence.

Overall Cambridge deserved to win but the scoreline doesn’t sit well with us.
Let’s move on!

Mom - Siobhan
Dod - Hannah Gage, in her absence, we had three days to review and can confirm now that 8 is not between 1-7.

*special note to Becky Hart who put together a great quizz at night! And thanks to the rest of the club for attending and contributing.“
