The game of two halves

Wapping Ladies started with good confidence into the game against Sevenoaks Ladies 2.
Within the first few minutes the ladies in white showed clearly who wanted to take the three points home.
Sevenoaks - at least in average 5-7 years younger - was clearly surprised by the high pressing, the game tempo and our eagerness to score.

First short corner was successful after captain Bee Armstrong’s strike got saved but the her rebound found Jordan Mulvaney’s stick for deflection and went in, 1-0. Seems like all the training to score from deflection starts to pay out…

Having the luxury of 16 players on board and our still injured Sophie Tomkinson as the master of interchanging (THANKS AGAIN) the high pressing continued with excellent leg work from the forward line, Kate O’ Sullivan, Katelynn Roganowicz, Lottie Colquhoun’s, Zara Reid and Jenni Allen.

If the midfield did not pick the balls up anything that went further through was stopped by our defense line Becky Hart, Dannie Jones, Bee Armstrong and MOM Hannah Gage (AGAIN!). The ball seemed to be drawn magnetically to her stick.

Wapping had some nice connecting attacks and one of them upgraded to a short corner. Wapping had some beautiful connecting attacks and one of them upgraded to a short corner. Ciara Murphy stepped up when needed to finish strongly bottom left.

After half time a completely different game was being watched by the 40-odd loud crowd on the sideline.
Seven Oaks found some more energy in their young legs and showed off some great skills.
Although midfield Ais McKeon, Emma Evans, Holly Cardwell, Ciara Murphy and Lotta Paulus kept leading into the pockets, Sevenoaks positioned themselves much better and made us play their game.

Still surprised from the different half, Wapping struggled to outlet und build up calmly. Sevenoaks on the other hand shot a strong short corner into our goal with 15 minutes to go. 2-1.

Game became frantic and nerves were totally tested two minutes before final whistle with another short corner against us. But Megan Pugh kept her goal locked from any further intrusion.

DOD - A few potential DODs this time. Lottie’s lacking geographical knowledge of Hackney despite taking the train to Hackney Wick every week or Jordan’s not stopping for this poor old chap at the zebra crossing were all taken over by Kate O' Sullivan (Sully) for not only missing to get off the right train station for pick up but also the right exit while navigating and making the car late.

MOM - Hannah Gage, great tackles. Such a rock in the defense.
