Hot on the footsteps of the newly laid, hockey specific, all weather pitch at the John Orwell Sports Centre, we are proud to announce the creation of Wapping Kidds HC, a new sports club dedicated entirely to the development of young hockey players in East London.
Staffed by volunteers with coaching experience, all of whom are fully DBS checked, Wapping Kidds aims to provide a regular Saturday morning training facility for local, primary school age boys and girls (ages 7-12). Children will learn skills, safety and game play over the course of each term, with a heavy focus on game play.
Sticks, balls, face masks (where necessary) and goal keeping equipment will be provided, although those with their own sticks are encouraged to bring them along. Children will be expected to have shinguards and mouthguards. For assistance in having specific mouthguards made, we can point you towards specialist dentists.
Wapping Kidds is affiliated to the England Hockey single system.

Some thank yous:
London Borough of Tower Hamlets & Sport England for the £650,000 investment programme into the John Orwell Centre. This first rate facility is now the perfect environment for local children to learn, and even has covered spectator seating for parents to watch in comfort. Wapping Kidds HC are also delighted to be partnering with LBTH Sports Department to ensure the training delivered meets borough needs.
The Turks Head Cafe for providing pitch side catering. Parents will be able to order hot drinks & food to be delivered to them in their seats, and a percentage of sales will fund the hockey.
Topps Tiles, the Canary Wharf Contractors fund, Steve Simes & Sinead Wilson for providing Kickstarter funding, allowing acquisition of suitable equipment. Thanks also to Steve for equipment donations.
The members of satellite club Wapping HC for providing coaching and admin services to the new club on a voluntary basis (and website hosting for now). A particular nod to Sandra Akinbolu & David van Stolk for leading on the admin.
Dan "I like pirates" Carter for coming up with the name of the club.
Local residents for their ongoing support & of course for bringing their children along to participate.
Great trees grow from humble acorns & we hope this will be the first step towards Central & East London eventually producing the Olympians of the future - and at the very least, greater access to healthy and social sport for the girls & boys of the borough.
