How on earth are we going to get to Brentwood???!!
Wapping Ladies Indoor Classic
With the next instalment of indoor hockey taking place so near to Christmas, it became necessary to recruit some new players to the dream team - as the majority of the squad decided to commit to Christmas social event! What ever happened to "Live... Play... Die"??? Thankfully, given Wapping's recent publicity, Billsy was able to recruit two Canadian Internationals - Mel and Georgia. The lack of transport to the games also created some problems, however the loan of the "Beast" saved the day.
Back to the match report. Upminster turned up goalie...less and played 5 outfield players. Last season, this tended to be Wapping's tactics. Sadly for Wapping, it worked in the oppositions favour, particularly when Billsy missed two open goals and passed to the centre forward at the top of the D. Ailis (GK) had her work cut out and she undoubtably prevented the opposition from finishing with a score line in the 20's. Whilst Fran and Georgia helped save some dignity by scoring 4 goals between them, it was noted that they both had a particular tackle technique that the umpires felt was inappropriate (mainly because the tackles were not text book indoor acceptable tackles). Not that Billsy did much better, by conceding plenty of penalty corners through some quality football skills.
You may have noticed that I have not mentioned how Mel played in this game. Interestingly, the squad post match assessment noted that Mel didn't factor into the stats. It was finally agreed that Mel was so consistent during the game that no one noticed.
To summarise - Not our best game, but with two new players to the squad, and massive issues with actually getting to the game on time - we all felt that our next match would be better.
