The Orchestra's Final Symphony
It was time for the final symphony of the Wapping Ladies Indoor Season 14/15. The roles had been set; Ailis, the solid fortress of the goal, was the master of ceremony. Mel was the conductor, making sure everyone knew their timings. Six took on the role of the violin, constantly making sure she was all over the pitch, and never giving up. There was only one screech painful to the ears, when she kicked Ailis in the head!! Babs fully encompassed the great cymbals, often crashing into the other players - although the umpire seemed to be aware of a rule that we just couldn't learn, that you weren't allowed to spin?! And finally, the great wonderful Sarah Hanley took a rather unfamiliar position in defence but played so well, she was awarded the solo on an electric guitar.
The umpires were incredulous that we were only playing with 5 players, and gave us wise advice to try and conserve our energy. We chose not to listen to them obviously, and with silky smooth skills from everyone on the team, Babs slotted away a beautiful goal.
And then we realized why the umpires had told us to not go out too hard. The heat intensified, and the other team seemed to never get tired with constant substitutes. We had to defend multiple short corners, and a few times, Six got a bit too excited to run out, and decided to join the other team in their half.
Unfortunately, we could not keep a clean sheet... or even keep the winning score-line in our favour. The other team slotted away four lovely goals.. but we were not disheartened, as everyone in the team had put up a good fight. The sweets were bought out, and our minds were set to the next game.
