M3s give Captain Edmunds perfect send off
Wapping 3s 5-1 Crostyx
(Forbes, Bolle, Paulus 2, White)
A sluggish start from Wapping and some early pressure from Crostyx resulted in two short corners within the first few minutes. A ricocheted shot fell to a Crostyx forward who slotted a sharp finish into the far corner. 1-0 down.
Wapping then started to play. Using a high tempo press, Wapping started to exert some pressure at the other end of the pitch, winning numerous short corners. Carpenter's attempted assist to Turner was thwarted by an (unnecessary) deflection on the line by the excellent Hamish Forbes. Bolle and Paulus slotted one and two shorts respectively in the bottom corner.
Some excellent interceptions by Farley at the back and great distribution by cap'n Edmunds down the left was supported by some tireless running from the mids and forwards. As the game opened up, Austin released Whitey one on one with the keeper and Whitey non chalently rounded the keeper to add his name to the scoresheet.
Paulus was lucky to escape a yellow after his (well-timed?) tackle on top of the D attracted one umpire's attention. During his two minutes off, Townsley had a not-so-well timed cameo at right back - but the defence held strong.
There was time for Black to volunteer himself for a green card after he was cynically hacked by the Crostyx left back (the green was for the other player...) before he rolled his ankle to join Fordy and Forbes on the injury list by the end of the game.
Overall, a well-earned victory and a fitting way to end Cap'n Edmunds' successful tenure as captain.
MOM - Edmunds for losing the captaincy
DoD - Black for trying to card himself
