Rainbows and goals aplenty for Wapping L1s

This week Wapping took on visitors Maidstone at a very chilly Lee Valley. Wapping started the game quickly, intercepting the ball and immediately stringing passes together to penetrate the visitors half. Emma Evans and Aisling McKeon dominated the middle of the park causing confusion between the Maidstone squad.

A great build up of play from the back line between Hannah Gage, Bee Armstrong and Becky Hart gave Katelynn Roganowicz the opportunity to drive into the 'D' beating both defender and goalkeeper, a swift square pass from Katelynn saw Ness Sharman produce a clinical finish to give Wapping the lead within the first 10 minutes!

Maidstone fought back hard over the next 25 minutes to hold Wapping at 1-0. Wapping's inners desperately tried to get the ball to the forward line. A fantastic run to the near post by Zara Reid saw Aisling McKeon fire the ball towards her who only narrowly missed what would have been a stunning deflection. Half time: Wapping 1, Maidstone 0.

After a stern team talk Wapping pushed back keen to secure another 3 points. Lottie Colquhoun and Ciara Murphy caused the Maidstone defence difficulties with their silky stick skills whilst Dannie Jones and Hannah Gage fiercely controlled the back line.

A rare loose ball through the Wapping defence had Goalkeeper Mooch Perkins produce a clinical save at the left post to keep Maidstone at bay.

Wapping pushed on again hungry for another goal, a beautiful pass from Lotta Palous to Aisling McKeon at the top of the circle, a quick strike, a great goal! 2-0.

Passes high from Bee Armstrong gave Katelynn Roganowicz and Jordan Mulvaney opportunities to connect well, splitting the Maidstone defence confidently and challenging their keeper at every angle. After several more chances Wapping found themselves caught on the break, Maidstone swept the ball high and entered the Wapping circle, another brilliant save from Mooch saw the ball fly high dangerously close to the net; with Mooch down Jordan Mulvaney managed to clear the ball off the goal line with a volley.

With the game drawing to a close Wapping pushed on aiming to convert solid hockey into goals. A silky overlap between Becky Hart and Ciara Murphy on the left hand side carried the ball to the baseline where Katelynn Roganowicz was waiting, Becky made the perfect pass in, Katelynn made it 3.
