Can't beat Canterbury January 13th

Wapping v Canterbury

Wapping Ladies 1s travelled to Canterbury for their second clash of the new year, hungry to get back to strong winning ways. Canterbury started confidently, pushing high and wide into the Wapping defensive third. Wapping in contrast looked slightly shaky, struggling to string a handful of passes together. The first opportunity of the game fell to Canterbury when a defensive miscommunication from Wapping allowed the home team to break into the D for a clean strike on goal. 1-0 Canterbury. The pressure continued to mount as Wapping saw off several Canterbury short corners, the maroons assembling their unconventional defensive structure to baffle the Kent side. Wapping attempted to settle the game but struggling to connect, turned over the ball once more for Canterbury to charge down the right and into the D to make it 2-0. Wapping looked to get back on top, playing the ball around through the likes of midfielders Aisling McKeon, Lotta Paulus and Lucy Todd, but unfortunately the score remained 2-0 at the half time whistle. After a rousing half time team talk Wapping began to dominate, threading the ball down the wings through wide backs Becky Hart and skipper Bee Armstrong. Emma Evans and Jordan Mulvaney worked tirelessly, trying to breakdown the Canterbury defensive unit, but the home team sat firm. Wapping won a number of late short corners but didn’t manage to convert the opportunities to change the scoreline. A 2-0 loss was a disappointing result all round, but Wapping should look to put this behind them ahead of their home fixture against Cambridge University next weekend. Joint MOM awarded to Jordan Mulvaney, Emma Evans and Lucy Todd for their strong performances. DOD goes to Kate O’Sullivan with a strong 13 votes for waking up at 9:36am for a 10ammeet in Canterbury
