CoP take the win
Wapping v City of Peterborough Feb 10th
A strong start for Wapping Ladies 1s was sadly not enough as a tough second half left the final score as a disappointing 1-0 loss for the team.
The first half saw a motivated and enthusiastic Wapping causing difficulty for their City of Peterborough (CoP) opposition. Strong attacking play entering the circle from multiple different channels enabled Wapping to secure a string of short corners.
Whilst unfortunately they were not converted, the momentum was kept up with the forward line of Kate O’Sullivan, Jordan Mulvaney, Vanessa Sharman, Lottie Colquhoun, Katelynn Roganowicz and Jennifer Allen executing a relentless full press, causing many difficulties for the CoP defence.
With the majority of the possession, the linking play from the back to the front line was fluid and highlighted Wapping’s connectivity and teamwork. The back line of Meg Pugh, Becky Hart, Dannie Jones, Hannah Gage and Emma Skinner were able to break down the couple of break away attacking opportunities that CoP presented.
A strong build up play down the left hand side found midfielder Lucy Todd in the D who very nearly found the back post, mounting further pressure onto CoP.
However, an effective team talk for CoP was built on as they grew in strength in the second half.
As the second half unfolded, the possession equalled out with efficient clinical interceptions and build up play from the CoP midfield and forwards.
A few more short corners for both sides. However, it was CoP who found the back of the goal in the second phase of their short corner routine.
Whilst midfielders Ciara Murphy, Ais McKeon, Lucy Todd and Emma Evans were excellent at helping the out-letting and creating opportunities up front, it wasn’t to be for the Wapping team this week.
A disappointed team, yet able to reflect and build on the strength of their first half.
