Wapping v West Herts
Unwilling to face another cancelled game, Wapping’s ladies 1stXI put on their thermal vests and woolly hats to face West Herts. A focused warm up helped their fingers thaw and the girls came out strong and determined in search of the win.
West Herts however came out with matching determination and fought for every 50/50 ball, putting significant pressure on the Wapping defensive line. West Herts’ fight was rewarded as they scored in the early minutes of the first half.
However, Wapping’s new formation was proving effective as it allowed for some quick balls through the midfield and some sharp, rewarding, linking play. The ball was dribbled along the line and pulled back across the goal keeper, Katelynn was there to reverse stick sweep the ball into the top of the net. Goal to Wapping!
Wapping continued to play on and off the ball well, with Siobhan and Toddy creating some excellent 2 v 1 opportunities through the middle and Emma Evans keeping a beady eye on all that attacked down the left. The defensive line continued to create turnovers and move the ball out of pressure, creating new lines of attack. The forwards worked hard, with Ness Sharman showing some ‘silky’ skill to win man of the match. Wapping went into half time proud of their first half performance.
However, the second half was a different game for the ladies as the cold stiffened their fingers and lowered their moral. However, despite West Herts putting 3 more goals past them, Wapping did not once stop in their fight, continuing to create opportunities which unfortunately didn’t go their way. The girls now look to end on a high as they face St Albans this week.
