L2 V Shefford and Sandy

Another 3 points for the 2's as they

On a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon (the polar opposite of our Wednesday night training session...) the L2s gathered at Lee Valley to face Shefford and Sandy. The team were in high spirits following last week's big win against top of the league which had placed promotion in the team's own hands but the girls knew nothing but a win would do today.

The team started a little nervously but an early goal settled the team. Fran Sutton picked the ball up in the middle of the pitch just outside the 25 yard line and burst forward into the top of the opposition's D where her shot found the backboard on the second attempt.

The team followed up with a second goal quickly, the ball was worked nicely from the defence, up the right wing and a cross into the D was met by Martha who marked her move from defence to upfront with a lovely goal sweeping the ball home.

The team were playing with real confidence now. Mooch in goal was marshalling her defence well with centre backs Mutsa and Georgia picking off every Shefford attack with Skinner, Dutchie and Ruth playing some lovely line balls up to the busy forward line of Hoff, Wardy, Martha and Zara who were making strong runs dragging Shefford's defence all over the place. While the midfield of Fran, Sippy, Nat and Jess were looking to feed the forwards and break into the D themselves.

A third goal followed just before half time with the ball being switch across the middle and then up the left wing with the ball across the D being met with a shot which was saved by the keeper but Jess was on hand to poke home the rebound.

Shefford came out hard in the second half but Wapping absorbed the pressure. Wapping were then controversially denied a fourth goal early in the second half. The team kept working hard, particularly having lost Zara to a harsh yellow card, but eventually made the break through with a slick short corner routine seeing captain Hoff smash the ball home from a tight angle.

The team had more chances to extend the lead towards the end but it finished 4-0.

Four games left....the race for promotion is on!!!
