Wapping 2's V St Albans 3's

3 goals and another 3 points...

After a tight match and a disappointing result last week, Wapping knew they needed to convert their chances this week.

A rallying team chat in the changing room from Coach Musto meant the team were highly motivated and ready to start the game with real determination. There were smiles all round after Vice Captian Kate 'Sippy' Silbermann's extra motivational huddle chat! See attached photo :)

The first half saw a lot of passing across the back with Mutsa, Georgia and Martha ensuring we stayed in control of the game, by keeping the ball moving from side to side. However the team struggled to get the ball up to our non stop moving forward line of Jess, Fran and Zara.

The first goal of the game came from a pass into the D from Siobhan which was picked up by Lou who managed to get the keeper off balance with her speedy changes of direction and managed to crash the ball into the back of the net.

At half time we knew there was still much work to be done and the team could not let the tempo slide.

After some beautiful small passes on the wing between Alice, Ellie and Jess the ball was passed up the line. Hoff picked it up, drove to the base line and used amazing 3D skill to pass it over to Lou who took a strike. The goalie managed to deflect the first shot on target, but was defenceless to Lou's quick reactions when she hit the ball at goal again to put Wapping 2-0 up.

Georgia put her body on the line when she saved a goal with her wrist which resulted in a St Albans short corner. The attcking team tried to outwit the Wapping defence by passing the ball to a slip who drove towards goal and attempted a questionable lifted ball which flew once again into Georgia's arm. A penalty flick was given. The St Alban's player attempted a well practiced flick into the top left hand corner, however this was not enough to get past Moochs cat like reflexes as she managed to get a stick to the ball the deflect it off the back line.

Wapping began to control the game more, with some excellent passing play between Sippy and Siobhan in the middle. Using the space made available by the non stop runs being made by our fantastic forward line of Jess, Fran, Hoff and Zara. Some brilliant passing down the left hand side allowed Fran to drive through multiple players to get into the D. The angle was too tight for a shot on goal so a short corner was won. The team set up confident after much practice and Ruth smashed the ball through the goalies and into the back of the net.

The final result of 3-0 and 3 well deserved points put Wapping back on a winning run and a confident team look forward to taking on Saffron Walden next week.
