L3 thrash league leaders Braintree

A game of two halves

After the stellar 6-1 win in the very much anticipated derby match last week expectations were high. Could the threes repeat the amazing performance, the champagne hockey? Could they match the result? We knew one thing : the oppo was leading the league table - ok just after 2 matches but it meant that it was no easy ride.

The warm up was focussed and intense, lead by princess Marven who organised a very complex game of stuck in the mud. It was slightly disturbed by the appearance of taxis riding around the pitch but we kept our focus. Without Monger's inspirational words we had to make do with Roche's croaky voice. The motto was communication communication communication what more is there to say?

We started strong, moving the ball around and being always first on the ball.. We forced errors and pressed hard, turning the game around quickly and incisively. 2 beautiful goals went in in close succession Babs and Issy finishing calm and collected. We kept our cool and the defence continued moving the ball around the back, Dudley being and amazing pivot and letting everyone know where she was. The inners worked relentlessly up and down the channels creating space for Krelle and Roche to run up and cause havoc in the oppo's defence.

Babs converted another one from a great cross after a fantastic run down the right wing and Issy also claimed her second one shortly after. We continued to create space and chances some only narrowly missed, BJ converted the fifth goal with a lovely tap in and just BEFORE the half time whistle went, a magnificent pass from BJ was converted by Babs to make it 6. Oh no wait.... apparently the whistle went just before the ball was hit in the goal.... mmmm... Babs politely requested a rethink ... the goal unfortunately was not awarded and as magnanimous captain Roche said: harsh but the rules are the rules!

The second half lacked the intensity of the first half, maybe due to the fact that we were winning so comfortably, maybe a small fitness issue or that the oppo came back more fired up - we created fewer chances and made more errors. Despite that we kept going and fighting and supporting each other Zoe and Becky being our wall in defence. Thanks to our Manager Krus we had fresh legs being swapped regularly to give us that injection of pace we needed and despite conceding a goal, our 6th goal was beautifully executed by BJ from top of the D.

6-1 can we match the score again next week?

Worth to mention the lovely teas at the captain Kidd, and the fantastic effort by our older, more experienced members of the team in smashing the younger children in the boat race. (IG:wappinghcl3s)

MoM: Issy for her great goals and workrate
DoD: Babs for mildly protesting about the unfairness of a badly timed whistle
