L3 take 3 points away to Thurrock
Courtesy of everyone's favourite DoD, Babs.
This week the mighty threes descended to conquer the Thurrock fortress - a very difficult gig from past experience as we know that at home they are a tough team to beat.
Expectations however were high after two consecutive 6-1 wins and more importantly the lovely hockey we have been playing.
Coach Monger's promise of buying the boat race beverages should we win by 5 goals spurred us on even more but not as much as the in depth lecture on being "professional" in different situations by captain Roche.
A great warm up led by Big Jess who travelled to Essex in her little red sports car meant that we started strong, moving the ball around confidently and looking back. Issy and Babs had a couple of very close early chances and were unlucky not to hit the backboard. Midfield and defence linked beautifully and amazing runs by Wardy, Holtie and Sophie generated more opportunities and great play. Martha, Bella and Dudley controlled the midfield and we felt confident that the goal would come - we just needed the three Ps patience , possession and PROFESSIONALISM - and it paid off - soon after half time we turned the ball round quickly, a great pass from Wardy to Babs to Issy who found herself alone v the keeper and finished with poise and elegance. The rest of the game continued as above with professionalism being key here as the match became increasingly physical - Martha's debut for the threes was so positive that she decided to give it her all - no body part spared!
Unfortunately Captain Roche was given a green card because despite our extreme professionalism we were perceived to disagree with a couple of decisions - Roche however wasn't put off by that and continued to lead by example particularly when she declared that an altercation between an oppo player and Martha amounted to GBH.
The game finished at 1-0 a great result which came from excellent team work- great work rate from all particularly from our magic defence: Vicky Sandy Roche Krelle and Zoe who kept their cool right to the end.
Thanks to Krelle as well for giving the DOD hat a really good time.
Mom Bella for her fantastic tackles and DOD for the second week running to Babs who is beginning to think some ageist bullying is going on here ...
Bring on next week - if the winning streak continues Monger next time the drinks will be on you!
Pint off was unsurprisingly won by Bella bucket throat.
