Wapping Ladies 4s vs Wapping Ladies 3s - 30 Sept
This week saw the long awaited return of Laura (Ernie) Humphry. Debuts from Charlotte and Lana meant not only was this a cracking squad but we must be starting to break records here…L4 ginger numbers are through the roof!
The 3s were looking very serious. Too serious in fact….after our sleepy warm up we became serious too, until seconds before push back when Captain Hattie forgot which team she was in and yells “come on 3s!” Hmmm.
The derby began. We looked strong with fire in our bellies…..belief was setting in. "We can do this!" we cried.
For ten minutes we fought off the threes with some lovely play out wide. But after some speedy work from the threes forwards they opened the score line with a sneaky deflection. Our heads stayed up and we got on with the job…We piled on the pressure, testing their backline which eventually paid off when someone manged to steal the ball from Sandy… Ella cracks one in! GOAL…OMG we’ve equalised.
While basking in our glory the threes cranked the intensity up a notch. They were quick to roof another goal in.
Half time: 2-1
The second half was a bit of a blur…but the main thing to note was that fine moment when Solley picked up the ball and threw it over the fence for no reason whatsoever. Was she having a tantrum or tactically wasting time? Either way let us just be grateful that she has more ball control with a hockey stick than her hands!
There was a 3rd goal…I don’t remember this part because I was lying on the floor after Roche temporarily crippled me. There was a penalty flick after Wardy took a shot which saw the ball stopped on the line by a foot. Up came Sandy, 4-1.
The goals kept coming and Roche got louder: “Let them make mistake,” she yelled every time we had the ball. A well deserved win for our L3s and lots to learn from for us all.
Final score: 1-6
